Innovobot Labs

IoT & Embedded Systems Lab

From sensor to cloud: engineered to ship.

Our IoT & Embedded Systems Lab designs the electronics inside connected products: analog, sensors, wireless, firmware and ultra-low-power hardware. Built by our US lab, Voler Systems, part of Innovobot, drawing on four decades and 1,000+ projects of Silicon Valley embedded engineering.

IoT & Embedded Systems Lab

Innovobot’s IoT & Embedded Systems Lab engineers the electronics inside connected products, from the first sensor reading through to volume production.

We turn working concepts into manufacturable devices by designing the analog, wireless, firmware and power architecture as one system, engineered to close power budgets, pass certification and carry the documentation that regulated markets demand.

Key capabilities:

Capabilities

Everything between the sensor and the cloud.

Ten disciplines that normally sit with four different suppliers, held by one team that has taken devices all the way to volume production.

Low-noise analog circuits, signal chains and precision measurement: the work that decides whether your sensor data is usable at all.

Sensor selection, specification and integration: from physiological signals to industrial measurement, with the shielding and calibration that make them trustworthy.

Bluetooth, WiFi, cellular and sub-GHz: choosing the right standard, then designing and certifying the radio that carries your data.

Power budgets that actually close. Battery life engineered in at architecture, not discovered at test.

Data collection, device management and over-the-air updates, written to be maintained long after launch.

High-throughput and hard-real-time control for the cases where a microcontroller will not do.

Precision positioning and coordinated multi-axis control.

Gateway platforms connecting devices to cloud networks, with application-level system management and analytics integration.

Custom test rigs and production test design, so quality is measured rather than assumed.

DFM, Design for Reliability, production test protocols and assembly documentation: accounting for part-to-part variation.

Areas of expertise

Device categories we have shipped into.

Condition monitoring, traceability and instrumentation for production environments.

Sensor-based connected products, gateway platforms and the cloud pipelines behind them.

Where power, comfort, signal quality and connectivity all compete for the same design margin.

Connected consumer products where cost, certification and volume manufacturing all have to work at once.

Neuromodulation and neurostimulation programmes, including FDA-approved therapy devices.

From implantables to hospital equipment, with the verification evidence and documentation clearances require.

How we work

Nine steps, and no surprises at the end.

Risk is identified and communicated at every stage, rather than discovered when it is expensive.

Discovery & feasibility

We start with your needs and limitations. Feasibility investigations happen before design work, so risk is retired early rather than discovered late.

Requirements & architecture

Complete, accurate requirements, then a high-level architecture with block diagrams and key component selection.

Team & project management

Engineers with the right expertise, plus a dedicated project manager accountable for communication, budget and schedule.

Weekly communication

Weekly meetings on status, technical challenges, budget and schedule: two-way, so nothing arrives as a surprise.

Multidisciplinary coordination

Electrical, mechanical and manufacturing teams kept in step, with supply-chain risk managed deliberately.

Detailed design & prototyping

Detailed design, firmware and prototype testing, fully documented before manufacturing begins.

Compliance & design for test

Compliance testing, Design for Test, and manufacturing process coordination for regulatory and production readiness.

Design for reliability

Design for Reliability, production test protocols and assembly instructions that account for part-to-part variation.

Production handoff

All data and documentation ready for production. One programme shipped 500,000 units at a 0.1% failure rate.

Case studies

Tangible results for our partners.

We work with companies that make a difference, commercializing revolutionary and disruptive innovations, that have a positive social and/or environmental impact.

IoT · commercial buildings

A water-leak sensor that runs for years on one battery ·

The challenge

Frequent leaks in commercial bathrooms cause structural damage, poor device-to-cloud integration creates data silos, and wireless transmission drains battery life.

Our approach

A custom sensor with Bluetooth LE power optimization, real-time device-to-cloud transmission through a local gateway, plus finished design, firmware and prototypes.

Results

Energy-efficient IoT integration with seamless cloud connectivity: the full stack from sensor to dashboard.

Aerospace · FPGA

Satellite antenna FPGA

The challenge

Limited internal FPGA expertise, extreme temperature and radiation in orbit, and precise positioning requiring closed-loop control.

Our approach

FPGA code for multi-axis antenna control on a radiation-resistant FPGA, with testing simulations and verification support

Results

Working control of the antenna motors, an integrated closed-loop system, and verification testing proving reliability in space conditions.

MedTech · cardiac

Wireless cardiac monitor

The challenge

No wireless functionality, limited battery performance, and regulatory equivalence still to secure.

Our approach

Compact wireless power and coils, event-driven monitoring firmware, and a custom EMC-optimized overnight charging system: concept through to production.

Results

Reliable 14-day Holter operation and 3-day cardiac/respiratory use, with regulatory equivalence secured for smoother FDA clearance.

AgTech · industrial IoT

Autonomous tractor

The challenge

Incomplete firmware left the product non-functional, with no internal resources to finish it and a design not optimized for manufacturing.

Our approach

Designed and implemented the firmware, built the GPS-to-steering software, and made the design manufacturable.

Results

A fully functional tractor guidance system, delivered as production-ready firmware and software.

Our approach

Electronic design specialists identified and rectified the issues, re-engineering the electrical design for use in space.

Results

Improved functionality and reliability, and better air-quality data from orbit.
